Terms.
Last updated 27 August 2026. Written to be read, not to be survived.
Draft. These terms are a working draft and have not been reviewed by a solicitor. They are published so the position is visible while nothing is on sale, and they will be replaced in full before anything is.
Who we are
What’s Airborne is made by GW Technologies Ltd, a private limited company registered in England and Wales, company number 17015256. Registered office: 61 Bridge Street, Kington, HR5 3DJ, United Kingdom. Contact: rob@whatsairborne.com.
What a pre-order is
A pre-order costs nothing, takes no card details and creates no contract. It is not a purchase and it is not a deposit. What it does is hold your place in the queue: we build and install in the order people pre-order in, and that is the only thing it reserves.
You are free to walk away at any point, for any reason, without telling us why. Every message we send carries a link that cancels it, and using that link deletes your record rather than marking it. We are equally free not to proceed: if we cannot supply you, or the product never ships, you have lost nothing because you have paid nothing.
When there is something to buy, the full terms of sale will be published before anyone can pay, and everyone holding a pre-order will be told first and asked to confirm. Nothing is charged automatically, ever.
Prices shown on this site are what we expect to charge: £34.99 a year for the software, £249 for a player with the licence included, and, for a commercial site, £249 per display plus £99 per display per year. They are indicative until something goes on sale, and the price charged will be the one shown at that point rather than this one.
The two licences
A licence bought with a player is included in the price of the hardware and does not renew. The version on that machine runs for as long as you want it to, and no later event, including us closing, stops it.
An annual licence, for software on a machine you provide, runs while it is paid and includes every update released in that time. If it lapses, the last version you received under it keeps running and only new updates stop.
We do not use the word "lifetime" anywhere on this site. It is a promise about how long a company lasts rather than how long you own something, and we would rather say the narrower thing and mean it.
What we do not promise
Airborne shows what aircraft broadcast about themselves, and only that. An aircraft that is not transmitting does not appear. It is not certified for any operational purpose, it is not a navigation or air traffic service, and it must not be relied on for anything where being wrong matters. Coverage depends on the aerial, the location and what is airborne.
If we stop
If we ever stop trading, the licence cost is removed and the final build is published able to read whatever ADS-B source you choose to point it at. A display already on a wall keeps working.
Your data stays on the machine
An update replaces the application and never touches your Data folder: settings, artwork and the record of what has flown over you survive it.
Livery artwork
The livery artwork exists to identify the aircraft actually overhead. Where an operator's mark appears, that is referential use rather than any claim of affiliation, endorsement or licence, and we remove any artwork on request from an operator or their representative.
Data and licences we rely on
Aircraft data comes from ADSB.lol under ODbL 1.0. Route and airline data come from the VirtualRadarServer standing data, released CC0. Weather comes from the NOAA Aviation Weather Center. Place names come from GeoNames.org under CC BY 4.0. These attributions appear in the footer of this site and in the application itself, because they are licence conditions rather than credits.
A unit configured to feed adsb.lol identifies itself on every request with a contact address, which is what they ask of anyone using the data.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and nothing in them affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
